God, Slyly Making Use of His Own Laws

These sorts of scientific articles never cease to amuse me:

Mother Earth could have parted the Red Sea, hatching the great escape described in the biblical book of Exodus, a new study finds.

Wait just a minute there. You mean Mother Earth could have done this cool Red Sea stuff all on her own, without ever needing to introduce this God fellow everyone seems to be so excited about?

In fairness to the OurAmazingPlanet article where I first ran across this latest claim, the writer seems fairly even-handed in the way he  presents the “findings.” It’s not quite the “Look, we proved that the Bible and its myths aren’t as awesome or as exciting as everyone thinks they are!” sort of attack that so often accompany announcements like this. In fact, it seems to be presented more as an effort to explain how something that seems fantastical (or even impossible) is actually explainable, yet still highly, highly unusual.

…which means that I might have to restrain my inner Goldberg just a bit: “Yes, but who made the wind blow exactly when the Hebrews needed to catch a break?”
