Will the Consecration Work?

The history of the Faith is filled with astonishing reversals, so why can't the Consecration of Russia have a miraculous impact?

Presently, the Catholic world is holding its collective breath as Pope Francis embarks on yet another attempt to fulfill Our Lady of Fatima’s request to have Russia consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Those who believe the Consecration already took place under previous popes are biting their nails and thinking, “What if the trads were right all along?” while many of the traditional “Fatimists” are finding everything that might be wrong about the text of the prayer, writing it off as another failed attempt before it happens. And, there are Catholics who have no real clue as to what is happening.

Personally, I have never believed the Consecration has been done in the proper manner—that is, with all the bishops, at the same time, with a specific mention of Russia. I believed that before I looked into the literature surrounding the subject. Perhaps I am a bit too simplistic, but I read Our Lady’s promises of conversion and of peace, and I saw neither.

Russia did not become Catholic; thus, in my mind, they did not convert. What is ironic is that many of the defenders of previous consecrations will tell me that the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) is schismatic and therefore outside the Church, while at the same time saying that Our Lady willed the renewal of Russian Orthodoxy, which actually is in schism with the Catholic Church.

At any rate, I will not contend with all the arguments for the various positions here, or anywhere for that matter. What concerns me is the present action by Pope Francis—will it work?

The short answer: I think so, but I can’t be sure.

As far as I can tell, Russia will be “especially” named (even if alongside Ukraine and “humanity”), the bishops have been invited, and the Consecration is to the Immaculate Heart. In order for it to work, it is my understanding that those criteria have to be met. Of course, some will say that an “invitation” of the bishops is not an “order.” In this age of hyper-obedience, I would beg to differ. We may as well say “being asked to resign” is different than being let go. Potato po-tah-to.

In any case, we will only know if it has worked…when or if we can tell it has worked. And, how could we know that?

Well, let’s take a look at a historical example to see what might be in store.

In 1931, the Bishops of Portugal decided to have a Consecration of their own. They consecrated their nation to the Immaculate Heart in the manner Our Lady requested, although only for their nation. We must understand the context of Portugal at the time. Remember, the Fatima children were thrown in jail by a Freemasonic Mayor in 1917. Portugal was literally overrun with Freemasons and experiencing a crisis in the Church and the government.

Whatever the Great Reset crowd is, they are masonic, which is to say communist, which is to say satanic to their core. Things were bad in Portugal then, and they are bad in the world now. However, within a year of the Consecration of Portugal to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, a revival of the faith and the rights of Christ the King was seen in Portugal.

The nation was graced with the leadership of António Salazar—a man the Left calls a fascist, who was in reality a Christian corporatist a la Maurice Duplessis—and Freemasonry dwindled. Folks went back to Church, the seminaries overflowed, Portugal was spared from a communist revolution that plagued their Spanish neighbors, and they stayed out of World War II. It was only after the Second Vatican Council that the country began to falter. But that is another story told in other places.

If there was ever a case to be made for a nation having been turned around by a Consecration, Portugal fits the bill. It is worth remembering that Portugal only offered an imitation Consecration, but Heaven was so pleased as to guide that nation through a golden age of faith and culture. God only knows how amazing the turn around might be of the whole earth if the big one was to take place.

Assuming Francis’ attempt works, what should we expect? Should we expect Klaus Schwab to pick up a rosary, or for Biden and Trudeau to stop being the scourges on the human race that they are? To be honest, maybe! Please, before you tell me this is impossible, or suggest that I am doe-eyed and idealistic, do not underestimate the power of Divine Grace. Blood-thirsty Aztec cannibals were turned into pious, Rosary-yielding Catholics by an apparition of the Virgin.

I will not pretend for a moment that all the powers of Heaven could not convert all the ghouls of this earth. Things are so topsy-turvy in society right now that there is no natural solution. That does not mean we don’t use natural means to fight for what is right, but it means that ultimately a divine reversal is called for.

How do you convince a society that believes boys can be girls; that medicine only works if all take it; that plagues are stopped by wearing handkerchiefs; that killing children in the womb is a “reproductive right”; that true liberty is dangerous; that it is racist to treat other races the same; and that milk can come from soybeans, to be sane?

You can’t!

That is exactly the point. It is only Heaven that can save us, which is why it might make perfect sense that it is this pope who is following through. I never would have expected Francis to do anything resembling this. But then again, it may be that the Consecration will take place at a time when least expected, by a man who was least expected to do it.

The history of the Faith is filled with astonishing reversals. The Cathars were about to swallow up the Mediterranean Basin, and then Our Lady paid a visit to Dominic. Lepanto was set to be the scene of Christendom being swallowed up by an Ottoman Leviathan, then Our Lady intervened there as well.

There are countless examples we could cite, and in all of them it was our stupidity and incredulity that was outdone by the Mother of God through her Son and her Church—sometimes despite the best efforts to the contrary of the men who sullied the offices they held.

So, will we wake up to a new world on Saturday morning? Who knows! I know that, God willing, we will wake up the next day and pray for the pope, the Church, and the Conversion of Russia.

May God’s will be done.
