Two efforts to support the pope and the priesthood

Here are two items I’d like to bring to your attention:

This is the third day of a novena for Pope Benedict initiated by the Knights of Columbus. It began on Divine Mercy Sunday and ends on Monday, April 19, the fifth anniversary of the pope’s election. It’s not too late to join in —  you can download the prayer on the group’s Web site here. (You’ll also find a short video about the novena by Bishop William Lori, current chaplain for Knights.)

Second, you may remember the beautiful and effective television ads produced by CatholicsComeHome.org. The same people have just announced  www.EncouragePriests.org, a new initiative aimed at supporting our spiritual fathers.

This Father’s Day, June 20, the group will launch its interactive Web site, and will provide virtual spiritual bouquets and printable e-greeting cards showing appreciation for priests. Visitors will also be to submit one-minute video testimonials thanking their priests.

EncouragePriests.org also plans to develop television ads to promote vocations and the dignity of the priesthood. If they’re as lovely as the Catholics Come Home ads, I can’t wait to see them.
