The Power of Conservative Hollywood

This film is for those who’ve suffered from religious bigotry. Its sold-out screenings at Sundance and in Salt Lake City are the first step for people to learn the truth about such a damaging and divisive effort.

I’m sorry. I just couldn’t help myself.

The combination of yesterday’s Variety report on Red Flag Releasing’s acquisition of 8: The Mormon Proposition and Tuesday’s conversation between Michelangelo Signorile and Joy Behar regarding Anne Hathaway’s recent departure from the Catholic Church was simply too amusing/disturbing to ignore. This quote was particularly enlightening/enlightened, I thought:

I think that it’s the powers that be that has the problem. Hollywood, ya know, it’s the money. The conservatives – the money is always conservative, and they’re always afraid.

I simply cannot imagine looking at what Hollywood has produced in recent years, and making that last statement with a straight face. We’re a long, long way from Hollywood Blacklist territory here, Mr. Signorile. In fact, I strongly suspect Ms. Hathaway will experience a significant increase in job prospects as a result of her “principles stand.”

It seems like a long time since The Princess Diaries, now, aren’t we? Though Havoc should probably have given us a pretty good idea of what direction we were heading.

Sad.
