Time for a few Friday morning links:
- The TSA’s new regulations for air travel — including the introduction of full-body scans — have been getting plenty of negative press lately. In protest, one group has proposed a National Opt-Out Day where passengers would refuse the scans the day before Thanksgiving — potentially creating huge delays on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Meanwhile, others are wondering why we don’t approach airport security more like the Israelis.
- China’s divorce rate is on the rise, and some critics are saying that an entire generation raised under the one-child policy are “too selfish for marriage.”
- John Paul II now has his very own board game. Give him a ride at Disney World, and I think he will have officially arrived.
- Al Pacino playing Shylock in The Merchant of Venice on Broadway sounds like it should be a disaster, but Terry Teachout says, “You’ll never see a more exciting “Merchant of Venice,” or a more thought-provoking one.”
- Why do auctioneers talk like that?
- I am decidedly not a fan of speed cameras — I think they’re often more about making money than actually making streets safer — but if we’re going to have them at all, I suppose ones that give you a shot at winning back your money doesn’t seem like a terrible idea. (Though I still doubt it’s the lottery effect, rather than just the ticketing, that’s making people slow down.)
