More Evidence the CCHD Supports Pro-Abortion Groups

Two new reports have been published today on the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).

Rob Gaspar at Bellarmine Veritas Ministry has dug more deeply into the CCHD relationship to the Center for Community Change (CCC).

In “Sleeping with the Enemy,” Michael Hichborn at the American Life League has also uncovered more disturbing facts about CCC.  Hichborn also chronicles the personal involvement of the USCCB’s John Carr, Executive Director of Justice, Peace, and Human Development. Carr oversees the CCHD.

These reports are so important, and definitive, I will be writing an overview of their findings to be published tomorrow morning.

The bottom line is this:

1. Given the evidence provided by Gaspar and Hichborn, the USCCB will have to sever its ties to the Center for Community Change and look more closely at the 31 organizations aligned with them that are funded by the CCHD.

2. The CCDH can no longer pretend its problems have been solved with the defunding of two organizations last November after the initial reports by Gaspar and Hichborn.  The CCHD should be completely overhauled or eliminated.

 3. The participation of John Carr on the board and executive committee of the CCC for 7 years, followed by his associate director, shows that the USCCB can no longer pretend to be surprised by the evidence of pro-abortion and pro-gay-marriage advocacy by CCHD-funded organizations.

If the USCCB tries to dismiss and whitewash these findings, the consequences will be grave.  The more Gaspar and Hichborn investigate CCHD funding, the more they find.

Thus far, one-fifth of the organizations funded by the CCHD have been found to be problematic. (The attempts of some of these organizations to scrub their websites is futile, since everything published on the Internet can be found.)

Let’s hope the bishops will recognize what’s going on in the name of fighting poverty.
