Time for your Friday links:
- Ronnie Lee Gardner was put to death in Utah this morning by firing squad (the first such execution in 14 years). Many people protested what they saw as a barbaric holdover from the past, but are firing squads actually a better means of of execution than lethal injection?
- Best lede of the week: “A German student ‘mooned’ a group of Hell’s Angels and hurled a puppy at them before escaping on a stolen bulldozer, police have said.”
- The latest plague threatening our children: BFFs.
- Steve Greydanus looks at Hollywood’s treatment of fathers. Surprisingly, it’s not all bad.
Speaking of movies, the trailer for the latest installment in the Narnia chronicles, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, was released yesterday. For being such a big fan of the books as a kid, I have to say that I haven’t seen any of these movies; they don’t particularly tempt me. And from the looks of this trailer, the latest entry seems to have little to do with what I remember of the book. What do other people think of the series? Should I give it a shot?
