Time for some Friday morning links:
- Judge Vaughn Walker extends the stay on gay marriages in California until August 18th, at which point the defendants must either appeal the decision or gay marriages will resume. Meanwhile, Walker himself isn’t convinced that they will have standing to appeal the decision in the first place. Read an explanation of Walker’s reasoning, and what it could mean going forward, here.
- More evidence that “couples who pray together stay together” — especially for African Americans.
- Via Deacon Greg: A remembrance of Tom Little, one of the ten humanitarians murdered in Afghanistan last week, from a man whose family Little aided when they were refugees in America.
- I strongly recommend not clicking on this link if you have just eaten, or plan to eat sometime today. The Turtle Burger: “a hamburger wrapped in cheese and bacon, garnished with a hot dog, and then baked.”
- For the person who has everything… artisanally sharpened pencils! “I’m going to have this nice, authentic, considered reaction with your pencil. I just want to treat it with respect. And get it really freaking sharp.”
- This year is the 30th anniversary of the release of The Empire Strikes Back (feel old yet?). Producer Greg Kurtz looks back on the franchise and laments what it became: a two-hour commercial for toys.
